“BAD NEWS GUNNERS” – Arsenal are unlikely to make an approach for Atletico Madrid forward Joao Felix unless his club lower their valuation, according to CBS Sports reporter Ben Jacobs.




The La Liga side are said to be demanding around €100m (£88m) for the Portuguese international and Jacobs says the Gunners have cooled their interest as a resultThere have been some suggestions that Atletico may be open to loan offers but, even then, it is believed that they will demand a clause that stipulates that the club has an obligation to buy the player at the end of the season.


As pundit Steve Nicol recently pointed out as well, Felix wouldn’t be a direct replacement for Gabriel Jesus anyway, considering he likes to play deeper. For that reason, Felix may end up going to another Premier League team, with Manchester United and Chelsea having also been mentioned as potential suitor

Felix joined Atletico Madrid for a transfer fee of €126million (currently £110.9m) in the summer of 2019. The amortisation cost on the forward’s seven-year contract amounts to €18m a season with the La Liga club asking for a loan fee of half that sum (£8m) plus the player’s salary to be paid in full. Arsenal – currently five points clear of Manchester City in the Premier League table – are interested in signing Felix following the loss of Gabriel Jesus to knee surgery. Manchester United are considering Felix as a replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo, whose contract was terminated by mutual consent ahead of the World Cup Final


Discussions with Arsenal are understood to be more advanced at present. Felix, who turned 23 last month, has been unhappy at the Estadio Metropolitano for over a year, struggling with Diego Simeone’s man management and tactical approachs.
